- W2487302574 abstract "This chapter studies the genus Dipodascopsis. In the determination of asexual reproduction, colonies are cream to white, moist, and somewhat slimy. Cells are spherical, ovoid, or occasionally elongated and divide by multilateral budding, mainly on a broad base. Budding may be abundant or sparse. Pseudohyphae may be present, and septate hyphae are formed, often abundantly by some species. In sexual reproduction it is seen that asci arise from conjugation between adjacent buds, hyphal tips, or fusion of a terminal hyphal cell with its penultimate cell. Asci are saccate, acicular, or cylindrical and may be persistent or deliquescent at the terminus. Ascospores number 4–120 per ascus and are hyaline, spherical, ellipsoidal, or reniform and have a smooth wall without a slime sheath. In physiology and biochemistry it is seen that fermentation is absent. Nitrate is not assimilated. Extracellular starch may be produced. Coenzyme Q has nine isoprene units in the side chain. The diazonium blue B reaction is negative. This study further examines the phylogenetic placement where Dipodascopsis is a sister genus of Lipomyces and its anamorph Myxozyma. The type of species mentioned is Dipodascopsis uninucleata. The species accepted are Dipodascopsis anomala, Dipodascopsis tothii, and Dipodascopsis uninucleata. The systematic discussion of the species includes synonyms, growth in malt extract, growth on malt agar, Dalmau plate cultures on potato agar, fermentation, formation of ascospores, CoQ, Mol% G + C, gene sequence accession numbers, type strain, cell carbohydrates, origin of the strains studied, systematics, ecology, biotechnology, agriculture and food, and clinical importance." @default.
