- W2488416210 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter describes chemical and biological agents. Chemical agents are synthetic chemicals produced to be used in wars. Chemical weapons are agents that are ready to use, in ammunition, bombs, rockets, and other delivery systems. From the medical-toxicological point of view, the most common classification of chemical agents relates to the organ or tissue that is mainly involved. Inconsistencies are included; for example, cyanide is classified as blood agent, although there is no specific effect on the blood or blood constituents. The earliest nonconventional weapons for hunting and war were probably of biological origin. Their use goes back to prehistoric times. Many countries signed the convention on the prohibition of development, production and stockpiling of bacteriological and toxin weapons and on their destruction, commonly called the biological weapons convention (BWC). This treaty prohibits the stockpiling of biological agents for offensive military purposes and also forbids research into such offensive employment of biological agents." @default.
