- W2488588706 abstract "An experimental setup for a measurement of the ultralow absorption coefficient α in transparent liquids at 1 μm light by the single pulse method was built, calibrated and tested. The ultimate limit of measurement is a α 10 -8 /cm. A method is based on an evaluation of the thermal lens effect initiated with a high power single shot laser by dark field method. The dependence of a signal from a defocused He-Ne probe beam on a ratio of pump energy over critical energy gives a characteristic parabolic curve. Critical energies E cr for a thermal lens of the measured media are obtained by comparison of curves for an investigated material and a known calibration medium. Pump energies of a few percents of E Cr are sufficient enough for a correct evaluation. An absorption coefficient is calculated directly from the thermal lens critical energy E cr . A device was calibrated by means of acetone, a well-known material with moderate α. A low absorption coefficient at 1 μ m was measured for various halocarbon liquids (CCl 4 , C 2 Cl 3 F 3 , Fluorinert FC) with different level of impurities. Obtained data on Fluorinert FC liquids will be used for optimisation of high power SBS phase conjugator based on a heavy fluorocarbon medium." @default.
