- W2488655009 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter explains that although synthetic fibers like polyester and polyamide have many positive attributes, their inherently low moisture regains and high strength result in problems of static generation, easy soiling, and pilling. Therefore, functionality can be imparted to the textiles made from polyester and polyamide textiles through finishing/coating/laminating. Applying a suitable chemical/mechanical finish to the textile is efficient to overcome the problems of polyester and polyamide-based textiles. With cost of energy, effluent treatment and competition becoming increasingly critical factors by the day, the emphasis is going to be on efficiency and cost effectiveness in finishing. Plasma processing is an important technique for future textile finishing, as the process uses no water and few chemicals and causes little pollution. The customers are going to look for multiple functionalities in the textile products they buy. Hence, a finisher should be ready to provide easy care, soil release, antimicrobial, UV protection, and breathability in a single textile product." @default.
