- W2489654788 abstract "Iron oxide chemistry is very versatile and can be interestingly explored in aqueous medium using “Chimie douce” approach. This high versatility of iron chemistry comes from the occurrence of two stable oxidation states on a large range of acidity as well as the reactivity of iron complexes toward acid–base phenomena. This diversity is also enhanced by the large number of crystal structures that it is possible to obtain by such synthetic route. Indeed, about a dozen crystalline structures among ferric and ferrous–ferric oxide–hydroxides has been reported. In this chapter, we present the main aspects of iron chemistry in aqueous medium allowing to orient the crystallization process of solids and to control particle size and shape. We discuss among other factors of the influence of capping surface molecule on the solid growth process. We also examine unconventional method such as microfluidic synthesis which can be considered as a possible technology to allow the investigation and the control of iron oxide–hydroxide synthesis." @default.
