- W2491671168 abstract "This chapter examines the relationship of humanity to the earth that is often referenced in terms of “recovery stories.” When these stories, drawn from the Hebrew Bible, are held in tension in an overlapping fashion, the basic structure of humanity's relationship to the natural environment resembles shifts between decline and growth, progress and struggle. The thread linking these various moments of engagement is the nature and meaning of connection between bodies and the space they occupy. The chapter highlights the body's relationship to the world by exploring the theological nature and meaning of the effects of Hurricane Katrina. It attempts to think about pain and suffering in ways that center the materiality of the body and its connection/relationship to the materiality of the world. That is to say, evil is discussed here, based on the assumption that the body and world influence and inform each other, without clear boundaries between the two." @default.
