Such measures of trophic link strength can be obtained as parameters in generic models for the population dynamical effects of feeding interactions fitted to data. The population-dynamical concept of trophic link strengths derives from such generic models for feeding interactions. This chapter discusses functional and numerical responses. It provides three examples for models of functional responses, in order of increasing complexity. The first example is the linear functional response. The second example is the Holling's Type II response. The last example is a functional response designed to describe prey switching. The chapter concludes by presenting food webs as networks of trophic link strengths." @default.
