- W2494367639 abstract "This chapter provides a background and management of robotic pelvic floor surgery using a case history of a 64-year-old woman with stage III vaginal vault prolapse as an example. Robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery was widely introduced to gynecology after receiving FDA approval for gynecologic indications in 2005. Complications of robotic sacrocolpopexy are similar to those of laparoscopy and may include reoperation for recurrent pelvic prolapse, problems associated with patient positioning, mesh complications, and inadvertent visceral injury. Studies comparing recurrent prolapse rates after robotic sacrocolpopexy with those after abdominal sacrocolpopexy report no differences among the surgical methods, noting composite recurrence rates of 4-8% after 1 year. Proper padding and safe positioning are important to avoid compression or hyperextension injuries of the extremities. The surgeon should be fully aware of the locations of all instruments in the abdomen, particularly before using electrosurgical instruments." @default.
