- W2495278321 abstract "Abstract Epigenetic changes, such as deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) methylation, histone modifications, and miRNAs, control gene expression and are important events in cancer. Cancer-associated epigenetic changes have practical application since they can be used as biomarkers for clinical diagnostic or as targets for cancer therapy, e.g., when normal versus cancer cells show clear differences in the DNA methylation pattern. DNA methylation captured high scientific interest since it is often associated to cancer. This epigenetic change occurs within the CpG dinucleotides located at the CpG islands that might be associated with the transcriptional repression of genes. There are many available methods that can be used to investigate the DNA methylation, however, DNA methylation analysis using pyrosequencing is a simple, noninvasive, highly reproducible, and sensitive method that can be used in diagnostic routine. Thus, DNA methylation analysis using pyrosequencing represents an important tool for biomarker discovery and clinical diagnostics. This chapter is focused on the use of pyrosequencing in clinical praxis and describes the principle of function, applications of DNA methylation investigation by pyrosequencing in clinical diagnostic and biomedical research, as well as the use of pyrosequencing to investigate the cancer-related miRNAs." @default.
