• W2495665008 abstract "Dieser Beitrag analysiert den zuletzt immer starker diskutierten Suffizienzgedanken, also die Idee eines einfachen Lebens und einer durch Verhaltenswandel verfolgten Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie und Zukunftsvision. Dabei wird der Nachhaltigkeitsdiskurs mit der Frage konfrontiert, ob Nachhaltigkeit rein technisch gelingen kann oder eben nicht. Im nachsten Schritt wird im Lichte der Kontroverse um die empirischen Bedingungen gesellschaftlichen Wandels gefragt, woran ein substanzieller Verhaltenswandel bisher scheitert. Ebenso wird analysiert, ob eine solche Suffizienz mehr menschliches Gluck verspricht. Diese Frage stellt sich auch im Lichte dessen, dass Suffizienz den (unintendierten) Ausstieg aus der Wachstumsgesellschaft bedeuten durfte und dies ganz erhebliche Folgefragen fur diverse gesellschaftliche Subsysteme aufwirft. In welchem Ausmas die Suffizienzdebatte zwangslaufig in Kapitalismuskritik munden muss, erweist sich indes als vielschichtiges Problem. Weiterhin wird normativ hinterfragt, ob die Normierung eines rechten Mases und damit eines Konzepts des guten Lebens uberhaupt Aufgabe staatlichen Rechts nach der Aufklarung sein darf. Abschliesend wird nach Suffizienz-Politikinstrumenten gefragt.This paper analyzes the idea of sufficiency which has been discussed increasingly lately. Sufficiency implies the idea of a simple life and a sustainability strategy and a vision for the future through changing behavior. The discourse on sustainability is confronted with the question whether sustainability can be achieved by only using technology or not, which is the main basis for sufficiency strategies. In view of controversies on the empirical factors for change in societies, the next step is to ask why substantial behavioral change has been failing so far. Also, I will analyze whether sufficiency is promising increased human happiness. This question is also relevant, seeing that sufficiency might (unintentionally) lead to an end of the growth-driven society. This will trigger immense follow-up questions for several subsystems of society. Yet, the question in how far the debate on sufficiency is necessarily critical of capitalism is rather multilayered. Furthermore, I will question whether standardizing a rightful level and therefore of a good life should at all be subject to state law after the age of enlightenment.
