- W2496185089 abstract "Rituals are used in fraternal organizations to make the members feel more closely akin to one another and to separate themselves from outsiders. This chapter provides a brief review of some historic death rituals, followed by a comparison of how children were affected by death and death rituals in the twentieth century, and how they are affected now. It leads to a proposed return to helpful rituals in funerals of the 1990s and concludes with specific suggestions for personalizing funeral services for children. Family members, including children, should contact and invite people to participate in the funeral ceremony. There are no limits and few restrictions concerning the extent to which children, or other family members, participate in the funeral ceremony, except those enforced by family decisions, religious traditions, or clergy. Children should continually be encouraged to share memories of their relationship with the person who has died and the importance of this person’s life to others." @default.
