However, VR's effects on the balance have not been well studied. The aim of the project was to investigate the additional effects of VR to conventional physiotherapy. Method: Nintendo Wii balance board games simulated VR intervention. Twelve subjects were recruited from two classes from the Cerebral Palsy Centre. Subjects were assigned by class to the control group that received conventional physiotherapy once per week for 30 minute, and the experimental group that received 20 minute session of Wii games once per week in addition to conventional physiotherapy. Intervention was carried out for 12 weeks. Outcome measures were postural sway in static stance/sitting, functional reach test (FRT), Timed-Up-and-Go Test (TUG) and activities-specific balance confidence (ABC) scale and motivation level. Result: All dependent variables of both groups were not statistical significant from pre- to post-treatment. FRT and ABC scores of the control group fared better at the end of intervention. There were observed improvements in the experimental group over the control group for postural sway (anteroposterior and mediolateral with eyes closed) and TUG. Conclusion: VR may be utilised to improve balance in CP children. It is fun to use, interactive and encourages participation from the children. A larger trial with higher dosage of Wii games is needed before a definitive conclusion can be reached." @default.
