- W2497409084 abstract "To date, when teeth are damaged or missing, they are restored or compensated by using artificial material fillings, crowns or dentures. However, because dental tissues, such as the dentin/pulp complex, periodontal tissue or whole tooth, are composed of both soft and hard tissues, their complex structures are not easy to be reconstructed. Thus, there is a great need for alternative therapies for regenerating damaged dental tissue with greater efficiency. Recently, cell-based therapies that use stem cells to facilitate tissue regeneration have been investigated for different clinical applications. To achieve tissue regeneration, many scientists and dentists believe that three elements are essential: cells, growth factors, and scaffolds, with numerous studies currently underway. There are still many unanswered questions in the development of an effective method for dental tissue engineering, such as the following. Which stem cell population is appropriate for dental tissue regeneration? What factors are needed for inducing cell differentiation into the required cell population for transplantation or for inducing dedifferentiation into stem-like cells? What is the best scaffold for tissue engineering? What ethical issues must be addressed? More recently, a number of reports have been published that have brought us closer to answering some of these questions. The development of allogeneic stem cell applications, along with the identification of stem cell-induction factors, dental tissue-derived induced pluripotent stem cells, and biomimetic scaffolds could help promote better tissue regeneration in the near future." @default.
