- W2499018082 abstract "Triggered EMG testing for guiding spinal screw placement has been widely reported for more than two decades as a means of protecting against inappropriately placed lumbar pedicle screws. More recently, there have been reports regarding the thoracic and cervical levels as well. The literature has extensively described the applications, sensitivity and predictive values of this testing. There has been less appreciation of how thresholds for triggered EMG testing vary with: (1) methods for delivering the stimulus, (2) instrumentation hardware, and (3) anatomical differences between levels of the spine. In this presentation, we first review some of the pertinent literature, describe and compare the anatomical levels of interest, examine the mechanical characteristics of various types of screws and then review some of their problems and pitfalls. We then examine the various EMG testing variables and how they contribute to triggered EMG thresholds focusing on the most recent literature in the Thoracic spine and then continuing with the cervical and lumbar regions." @default.
