- W2503204914 abstract "This chapter discusses a study to examine the basic physiological measurements of blood pressure during mid-pregnancy in an attempt to advance the development of in utero transfusions and to assess fetal condition. Sixteen patients at 18–21 weeks of gestation admitted for induction of abortion with intra-amniotic prostaglandins were studied. Maternal pre-medication with papavaretum, 20 mg intramuscularly, was given 1–2 hours prior to fetoscopy and diazepam, 5 mg intravenously, was injected 5–10 minutes before instrumentation. The mean intravascular pressure was recorded on a heated-wire pen recorder (Devices), by connecting the needle to a fluid-filled catheter and pressure transducer. In three cases following initial pressure recordings, small volumes of blood were injected into the fetal circulation and a further pressure recording was made. The in vitro validation of the system for recording intravascular pressures suggested that the technique was capable of achieving reliable reproducible results for mean blood pressure measurement. The precise effect that the resting uterine (intraamniotic) pressure has upon the intravascular pressure in vessels in the umbilical cord is not certain. The pressure measurements obtained in the current work are lower than those extrapolated from neonatal values recorded following both term and preterm delivery." @default.
