- W2503622475 abstract "The possibility of predicting the long time behavior of polymeric materials based on short time laboratory tests is of great interest and practical importance. At first glance, one might attempt to couch such a prediction in terms of the time-temperature correspondence principle (1) which states that the viscoelastic spectrum shifts homogeneously along the log τ axis with temperature changes. Thus the results of high temperature experiments done at short times might be translated into predictions of lower temperature behavior over extended periods of time. In actual long term applications of polymers, however, it is well known that chemical reactions occur which actually change the viscoelastic properties of the material while it is in use. In addition, environmental factors such as exposure to solvents or even water, while not always chemically modifying a material, can have a profound influence on its viscoelastic properties in much the same way as a true" @default.
