These results could be achieved using either a black lamp, which emits in the near UV, or a conventional fluorescent lamp, which emits mostly in the visible region along with a small amount in the UV. Complete mineralization required as little as 5 moles of peroxide per mole of (0.1 mM) herbicide with either light source. The thermal reaction (Fe3+/H2O2 ) gave only partial conversion to CO2. Initial rates of transformation by the full system (Fe3+/H2O2/hv) was greater than the sum of the rates of the component systems ( Fe3+/H2O2 and the photolyzed single-reactant systems, Fe3+ /hv and H2O2/hv). Direct photolysis of H2O2 was negligible, but photolysis of Fe(III) species was inferred to play a major role in both transformation and mineralization of the herbicides." @default.
