- W2506778498 abstract "We developed the Artificial Hormone System (AHS) to assign a set of tasks into a distributed system of processing elements (PEs) like processors. The tasks are allocated according to their suitability and the performance of the PEs. The AHSis a decentralised system avoiding single points of failures. It provides properties like self-configuration, self-optimization and self-healing and is able to meet real-time bounds for these self-X properties. However, as more tasks and PEs are served by the AHS, more communication bandwidth is needed for hormone communication. We present an example in this contribution showing that even a Gigabit Ethernet bus does not always meet the requirements of such a system. In addition, as more tasks are to be allocated, the worst case execution time (WCET) for their allocation gets greater. Therefore, we developed two approaches of a hierarchical artificial hormone system (HAHS) both limiting the communication bandwidth needed for hormone communication and also reducing the WCET for the task allocation time. We discuss both approaches in detail and evaluate them in this contribution." @default.
