- W2507367355 abstract "The current book chapter focuses on the metal-coordination complexes of pyrogallol[4]arenes and resorcin[4]arenes. Pyrogallol[4]arenes have been shown to complex with copper, nickel, zinc, gallium, holmium, silver, cadmium and cesium, whereas resorcin[4]arenes have been shown to complex with silver and zirconium. Direct metal coordination with resrocin[4]arene is restricted due to the lack of the central hydroxyl group, that is available for metal coordination in pyrogallol[4]arenes. However, metal-complexes such as Mn-DMSO and Co-DMSO act as guest templates for solvent-bridged hydrogen bonded resrocin[4]arene based dimers. Pyrogallol[4]arene, on the other hand, can directly coordinate with metal centers to form mono-(Cu, Zn, Ni, Ag, Ho, Cs), di- (Ga-Zn, Ga-Ni, Ga-Co, Ga-Cu, Ga-Cd) and tri-metallic (e.g. Ga-Zn-Cs, Ga-Zn-Tl, Ga-Zn-K, Ga-Zn-Rb) nanocapsules. Tethered metal-seamed nanocapsules of pyrogallol[4]arenes (Cu; Zn) can be constructed by the use of long divergent spacers such as 4,4’-bipyridine. In addition, pyrogallol[4]arene can complex with iron to from iron-seamed nanotubes. The coordination geometry of the metal centers (Zn, Ni, Cu) dictates the formation of a dimeric (square pyramidal) or a hexameric (octahedral) pyrogallol[4]arene nanoassembly. Temperature, solvent and metal are important factors in controlling the self-assembly of metal-seamed pyrogallol[4]arene-based nanoassemblies. Herein, we discuss the coordination geometries, metal oxidation states, controlling parameters of metal-seamed pyrogallol[4]arene and resorcin[4]arene complexes." @default.
