- W2509070076 abstract "[EN] Water is one of most valued natural resources nowadays, maintaining its quality is today one of the main goals of the public administrations which control it. For this purpose some tools have been developed such as water quality models that allow a proper management as well as the resource conservation. In this Final Master Project has been developed a Quality Model for the water of the Tabacay River micro watershed, the water of this river has a high social value as it is the only source of water for the city of Azogues, additionally is it subjected to a high pollution due to the cattle raising and agriculture activities which are developed beside its micro watershed. The usage of soils which are not intended to this type of activities has produced a great load of particulate material that reaches the riverbed plus the discharges and water runoff with high organic and nutrients loads which cause a big deal of environmental issues and the deterioration of the water that reaches the water treatment plant. This is the reason why keeping the water of this micro watershed at a high quality level besides being important for the environmental conservation, is essential for the purposes of the supplying the population. The information is provided by the quality network managed by the Company of water supply and sewerage of the city of Azogues (EMAPAL). The model simulates the basic parameters of the water quality as follows: dissolved oxygen, organic matter, nitrogen and suspended solids; furthermore, because of being water intended to human consumption simulations for pathogens are performed.To reach the final development of the model the available information is analyzed and assessed both quality and water flow as well as the geometry of the area, the parameters and constants applied in the simulations according to the system under analysis are set, the first simulations are performed with the useful data and the results are not the expected since they do not match the simulated values with the observed ones, in consequence it is not possible to verify whether the model works properly or not. A field work has been developed which allows to have more knowledge about the characteristics of the area and appropriate data, the dissolved oxygen has been utilized as a parameter to adjust the new simulations. With this new information is possible to obtain very good adjustments and verify the operation of the model as it predicts very similar values. (ingles)" @default.
