- W2510051007 abstract "The idea that the objects of perceptual experience are mind independent objects and we can be directly aware of those objects (naive realism) is natural. But many philosophers have been arguing that such an idea is incompatible with the possibility of hallucination and it is therefore false (the argument from hallucination). The exponents of the argument from hallucination extend the conclusion that naive realism is false in cases of hallucination and they claim that naive realism is also false in cases of veridical perception (the spreading step). The spreading step has often been motivated by the indiscriminability of veridical perception and hallucination. Recently it is also motivated by the local super venience principle. Yet, Fish does not accept the local supervenience principle and rejects the spreading step of the argument from hallucination. He argues that naive realism is compatible with the possibility of hallucination. The article examines whether Fishs argument is reasonable and claims that if man places importance on the everyday conception of perception, there is a problem in his argument against the local supervenience principle." @default.
