- W2510132643 abstract "The purpose of this study is to elucidate the basic characteristics of asphalt. Kuwait asphalt and Coalinga asphalt (prepared from the naphthenic crude oil), which differ from each other in properties such as the temperature susceptibility and the emulsifying ability, were compared by use of infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, contact angle measurement and torsional braid analysis, and the following results were obtained.1) The content of functional groups having N and O in the Kuwait asphalt was small in comparison with that of Coalinga asphalt, while the molecular size distribution of all constituents for Kuwait was larger than that for Coalinga.2) Values of the critical surface tension, determined by the contact angle measurement for Kuwait and Coalinga, were 25.7dyne/cm and 30.9dyne/cm respectively. These values correspond well to the difference of chemical composititon obtained in this study.3) From the result of viscoelastic properties measured by use of the torsional braid analysis, phase inversion of constituents within maltenes is believed to be absent because that only one peak corresponding to the glass transition temperature (Tg) was observed at a temperature range of -100°C to 50°C for various asphalt.On the other hand, from the fact that Tg was independent of the volume fraction of asphaltene, It is considered that the network structure of asphaltene which affects the molecular movement of maltene is weak." @default.
