- W2510153598 abstract "We report a case in which nonabsorbable suture used during previous colposuspension had eroded through the bladder causing a nidus for persistent stone formation. The suture was removed cystoscopidy with the ne0dymium:YAG laser. CASE HISTORY A 35-year-old woman was referred to the urology department with recurrent urinary infections. She had undergone endoscopic colposuspension elsewhere 5 years previously, the details of which could not be obtained despite repeated attempts. Ultrasound and excretory urography showed a 1 cm. bladder stone with no other abnormality. Cystoscopy revealed inflamed bladder mucosa and a stone overlying a polypropylene suture at the 10 o’clock position just above the bladder neck (fig. 1). Vaginal examination showed a granulomatous polyp at the tip of the right vaginal fornix, exploration of which revealed no suture. Four attempts at cystoscopic removal of the suture, including use of an optical urethrotome blade and resectoscope loop with diathermy, failed. The patient continued to pass small fragments of suture and small calculi intermittently. She had dyspareunia, and proved Escherichia coli and Proteus urinary tract infections. An open operation was refused. Using a ne0dymium:YAG laser at 80 watts continuous pulse and 8,640 J. the 2 entry points of the polypropylene suture in the bladder wall were photocoagulated and the suture was" @default.
