The recorded signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) is sometimes too small to identify clear seismic first arrivals in vertical seismic profile (VSP) surveys. Coupling of sensors with the medium is a key parameter that directly controls the quality of seismic recordings. In this work we address the coupling of DAS when it is deployed inside tubing, using numerical simulations. We discuss wave motion in fluid-filled boreholes, and the seismic signal detected by the fiber optical cable inside the borehole. Moreover, we derive under which circumstances DAS systems can record optimal signals, based on real and numerical data.
