- W2514264145 abstract "Due to its electrophilic nature, HNO has preference for reacting with biological nucleophiles, in particular with thiol-containing biomolecules. They represent the major targets for HNO-induced pharmacological effects such as vasodilation and cardioprotection, but also for its anticancer and neuronal effects. HNO could lead to either sulfinamide or disulfide formation, both of which could have distinct physiological outcome. Several proteins have been shown to be oxidized by HNO. One such example is transient receptor potential cation channel, subfamily A, member 1, responsible for HNO-induced release of calcitonin gene-related peptide and HNO-related neurovascular effects. Thiols could, however, also play important role in HNO generation in the cells. The reaction of thiols with S-nitrosothiols, but also the direct reaction of thiols with NO could lead to HNO generation. Recent emergence of hydrogen sulfide as a gasotransmitter introduced another thiol-like player that is potentially involved in the endogenous HNO generation." @default.
