• W2514866871 abstract "Slovenia prepared the new transport project axis 3 to improve the accessibility for less developed NUTS 3 regions. The proposal of this axis line streams from the Austrian border on the north, to the Croatian border on the south, and one of the main aims is to connect this axis on the existing Pan-European highways cross (V. and X. European corridors). The question of the effects of traffic infrastructure on regional development (equity) has been widely addressed in the literature, from both the aspect of growth as well as the aspect of economic geography. An efficient traffic system ensures utilization of economic and social opportunities, thus affecting the whole society. Local inhabitants and authorities are involved in all phases of planning (holistic approach). The effects of traffic can be divided into 2 groups: i) direct effects that refer to improved accessibility to the markets due to shorter transportation times and lower costs for the providers and for direct users of transportation means, and ii) indirect effects that are shown at an individual level (larger range of goods, lower prices, land rent) and at the national and regional levels (higher competitiveness, larger mobility, setting up distribution networks, etc.). Improved traffic infrastructure means larger traffic capability as well as higher efficiency and reliability of the traffic structure (lowering the risks carrying out traffic which is especially important in the time of integrating individual production - and service systems into supply chains). Despite a longer route and consequently higher investment - and operational costs, such a route can be more efficient from the aspect of the distribution of the activities in the space, environment protection, equity and suchlike. When it comes to choosing a traffic infrastructure corridor, all of the above results in utilising the multicriteria decision making process which includes multiple, appropriately balanced aspects or limitations to placing such a corridor into the space." @default.
