- W252023492 abstract "The use of radioactive materials is being developed to the point where radiation from radioactive isotopes can be safely and effectively used in process control, quality control, and level measuring systems. Radiation sources can be used in width and thickness gaging devices. Some of the various properties of radiation (scattering, reflection, absorption) can be utilized in density and liquid level meas uring instruments for closed systems. These properties can also be applied for use in flow control devices in conjunction with the density or level measuring instruments. Equations which can be used for determining the accuracy and the precision of isotopic radiation measurement meihods are presented. Statistical errors and instrument errors must be considered in the measurements. Derivations of these equations are shown, and graphic data used in solutions of these equations for the different utilization systems are presented. The methods used for choosing a source material, based on the system and on its operating parameters, are given. Graphic methods for calculating the activity of radiation sources, such as Cs/sup 137/ and Co/sup 60/, are presented. Nomograms for use in these calculations are also given. (R.P.R.)" @default.
