AGA is a fantastic organization, which has been blessed with tremendous leadership from its prior National Presidents as well as those who have served and will serve as leaders at the chapter and national levels. The entire AGA membership is characterized by its energy, dedication and creativity, which is why I am so excited about and looking forward to the coming year. In the past year or so, AGA has embarked upon many new and exciting initiatives, including continuing the development of the CGFM program, expanding the national education program, upgrading our publications and improving membership services. I believe that all of these initiatives are very important and off to a good start. I hope that in the coming year they will continue to move forward, to the benefit of and with the support of the entire AGA membership. To developing goals for this year, I felt that it was very important to give these new programs time to make and get underway. You will see this clearly reflected in my vision statement for 1996-1997, entitled In A Changing Environment, which follows. On March 30, I had the opportunity to meet with AGA's incoming national RVPs and committee chairs to discuss our plans for the year. I was so impressed by the skill and energy that they bring and feel that we are very fortunate that they are willing to see in these capacities. What follows is a summary of my plans for the year. I encourage every AGA member to read and think about this vision. T welcome any thoughts or questions that you may have that would help AGA to have a very successful year. AGA: Success in a Changing Environment This is a time of incredible change at all levels of government. Resources are tight and consumer expectations continue to grow. AGA's membership must deal with these changes and work to ensure that all levels of government provide cost-effective services. AGA must provide assistance to its members to help them be successful in these efforts while continuing their personal and professional growth. Thus we have the theme for this year: in a Changing Environment. AGA will be involved in numerous initiatives to make this happen. What follows is a brief overall of these initiatives. I look forward to working with and for all of you as we address the challenges that lie ahead.--Mitch Laine Support for Members Everyone who is involved with AGA national leadership as well as the National Office staff must do everything they can to help our chapters succeed and to respond to members' requests and needs. Support for AGA's membership -- at all levels of government, in the private sector and in academia--must be paramount in the minds of the national leadership and staff. Our Contributions AGA, through its chapter and committee activities, must continue to make significant personal and professional contributions to government, to the financial management communities and to the communities in which we live.
