- W2551743650 abstract "We examine the relation between MCS incentive design and managers' level of narcissism. Narcissism is a multidimensional personality construct that is exhibited through high levels of entitlement, exploitativeness, authority, superiority, self-sufficiency, exhibitionism and vanity (Raskin and Hall 1979). Using a survey employing conjoint analysis, we measure the difference in compensation design choices between participants with high and low levels of narcissism. Results suggest that subjects with higher levels of narcissism select incentive systems that reflect their intrinsic motivations. Relative to subjects with lower levels of narcissism, more narcissistic subjects are more likely to design incentive contracts that include bonuses with high levels of bonus rewards and avoid privately communicated praise. These preferences for contract design differ from the design preferences of overconfident individuals." @default.
