- W2551797768 abstract "As a music educator with teaching experience in a variety of settings-elementary and secondary public schools, an Indian reservation, community and private schools, and college-I have had a unique opportunity to view the landscape of music education from several vantage points. In the public schools, I was an untenured music on the reservation, I was an Anglo teacher; in community and private schools, I was a middle-level administrator as well as a and until recently at the college level, I was a guest lecturer. Each job framed my view based on intersectionalities of my professional and personal sites grounded in the everyday world, and revealed features of the landscape that had been invisible to me during much of my preparation as a music educator. These newly visible portions of the vista disclosed aspects of the dualistic nature of the social world, women's positionalities in the music education profession, and as a result of gendering, tensions and contradictions inhered in the concept of music educator. Consequently, the music education landscape I viewed~and, indeed, experienced-was more comprehensive and inclusive than what I had been shown from academic sites." @default.
