- W2551802007 abstract "In this paper, we report on how we planned to promote professional practice in teaching and learning in one Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College in the Vhembe District of Limpopo Province in South Africa. This programme is informed by a community engagement approach in which researchers from academic support units of two universities will extend their academic development services to lecturers teaching in the TVET College. The researchers plan to engage lecturers in the TVET College in professional development in four focus areas namely, Curriculum Development, Assessment of Students Learning, Portfolio development and Evaluation of Teaching and Learning. The background to this partnership was through the realisation that many TVET lecturers lack sufficient grounding in teaching since most of them are recruited straight from industry. It is hoped that the proposed engagement will help the TVET lecturers gain vital pedagogic skills and competencies that help enhance their facilitation of learning. This might necessitate the intensification of university-TVET partnerships of this nature so as to make a meaningful impact across the entire TVET sector." @default.
