- W2553535818 abstract "This is already the fifth issue of Projectie in which the DNRG publications team shares the Research Pages with you. In these pages you find articles that bring research and practice on the human factor in project management together. Following the themes of trust, collaboration and creativity, the research pages of this issue are dedicated to the theme of leadership and development. A theme everyone seems to have a strong opinion about, although it is often unclear what we base these opinions on. In these research pages a number of researchers and practitio-ners will share research based insights for practice with you. First, Rob Evers shares his impression of the fifth workshop in the National Workshop Series with you. In this workshop hosted by both Amsterdam based universities leadership was discussed from research and practice perspectives. Secondly, Peter Storm, Chantal Savelsbergh, Henk Broekema and I share the main results and practical implications of our study on the development of project managers. Finally, Leonie Koops reviews the practical implications of an academic paper on complexity leadership by Mary Uhl-Bien and her colleagues.Looking at this small collection of papers it seems clear that the context for leadership and develop-ment in project-based organizations and our perspectives on these issues are going through some major changes. This seems to include a move from highlighting formal positions, processes and education to including informal practices, processes and development. Whereas discussions of leadership used to be mainly focused on the individual leader and leaders in official leadership positions (managers), the discussion is expanding to include leadership processes between people in interaction and leadership behaviors enacted by anyone formally or informally involved in the project or organization. When it comes to development the discussion is shifting from a focus on formal education and training programs to a broader inclusion of formal and informal learning and development processes. As project management is a profession that is mainly learned in practice this broader perspective on development might help us gain a more complex understanding of the actual processes that are at play in the everyday process of becoming an excellent project manager.
