- W2553886274 abstract "Abstract Media that display hyperbolic dispersion have a range of exotic optical properties that promise new developments in imaging technology. Until recently, however, most such media have been artificially created metamaterials. This chapter, on the other hand, concentrates on natural crystals that have hyperbolic dispersion, with certain advantages over metamaterial structures. The mechanisms responsible for such dispersion include coupling of radiation to the crystal's phonon, plasmon, or magnon modes. The chapter discusses how phenomena such as all-angle negative refraction occur in such crystals. Imaging is analyzed both in terms of far-field slab lens systems and systems with subwavelength resolution. Various examples of the phenomena, both theoretical and experimental, are shown." @default.
