- W2554491515 abstract "Aim: To assess factors affecting smoking cessation rates in adults received pharmacotherapy and individualized behavior therapy. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in 18-65 year old former smokers by ascertaining their current smoking status on phone three years after their involvement in smoking cessation programme. Results: Marital status (p=0.005), childbearing status (p=0.049), household smoking (p=0.001), psychiatric illness history (p=0.014), age of start to smoke regularly (p=0.023), number of scheduled visits (p=0.000), educational level (p=0.018), mood assessed by Beck9s Depression Inventory (p=0.000) were different between groups based on smoking cessation periods. Cessation for >36 months was higher in subjects who were married, childbearing, with no household smoking or history of psychiatric illness, who started to smoke in older ages and with increased number of scheduled visits. Cessation for 12-36 months was higher in subjects graduated from university. Cessation for 12-36 and >36 months were lower in subjects with clinical depression. Age, gender, employment, nicotine dependency (ND) and anxiety levels assessed by Fagerstrom Test for ND and Beck Anxiety Inventory, age of first attempt to smoke, cumulative smoking amount, comorbid illnesses and pharmacotherapy option were not significantly different between the groups. Conclusion: Smoking cessation rates are extremely low in single subjects and subjects with severe/extreme depression. Scheduled regular visits are important for higher smoking cessation rates." @default.
