- W2554937994 abstract "This chapter presents a hybrid approach to estimate the probability of exceedances of the intensities (PEIs) of extreme-magnitude earthquakes (EMEs) and the probability of exceedance of direct economic consequences (PEDECs) that arise from the damages to spatially distributed infrastructure within a site. The stochastic and fractal character of the seismic source of the EME are included in the modeling. The chapter presents a brief synthesis of Copula theory, with emphasis on the Gumbel-Hoogard Arquimidean copula used to characterize the interdependence between PEI and PEDEC. Two examples of the application of the proposed hybrid approach to obtain preliminary estimates of PEIs, PEDECs, and probable maximum losses (PMLs) of the direct costs of the damage to one- to three-floor dwelling constructions in Mexico City and Guadalajara due to the potential occurrence of extreme Mw 8.5 subduction magnitude with epicenters in the Mexican Pacific Ocean Coast are also presented." @default.
