- W2558773025 abstract "The geometry and microstructures of ribbons spun by planar flow casting have been investigated as functions of the processing conditions, using various kinds of crucible material and slot design. Continuous polycrystalline Sn and Al-Cu ribbons with thicknesses of 50 to 180 μm and widths of 12 to 100 mm have been fabricated by planar flow casting. Ribbon thickness is a function of the main processing parameters. It decreases as the wheel velocity or superheat increases, and as the slot/wheel gap or ejection pressure decreases. In Al-Cu alloys, there is a microstructural transition from a segregation free columnar layer to a cellular/dendritic equiaxed layer through the thickness of the ribbon. The thickness ratio and the average inclination of the columnar layer increase with increasing wheel velocity and superheat. X-ray diffraction spectra indicate an increasing tendency towards a {200} preferred orientation near the wheel surface of the ribbon with increasing superheat." @default.
