- W2559623312 abstract "ABSTRAKThis thesis is written to improve the students’vocabulary mastery. The problem highlighted in this research is the low vocabulary mastery of Kindergarten students in Al-Irsyad Madiun that is caused by (1) the uninteresting activities in learning vocabulary; (2) the students’difficulties in spelling English words; (3) the students’ low motivation in learning.The research is conducted in two cycles from August to December 2007 in class B1 of Islam kindergarten of Al-Irsyad Madiun. The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problem, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the result of the research. In collecting the data, the researcher uses observational technique supported with tests. The observational technique includes observation notes; diaries, audio recording, video recording, photograph, and document analysis in the form of the students’work. The tests are in the form of pre-test and post-test. In this research, the research acts as the teacher who conducts the action research in the classroom and she is helped by the the classroom teacher. In analysing the data, she uses the field notes, teacher’s diaries, students’work supported with the cassette recording and photograph. The researcher also compares the result of the students’pre-test and post-test to answer the research questions.The result of the research shows that games can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. There is significant improvement in the result of pre-test and post-test of cycle 1 and 2. In cycle 1, to (3. 87474) is higher than tt (1.73) and in cycle 2, to (1.934765) is also higher than tt (1.73) From these two results, therefore, ho is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted. Firstly the they get more vocabulary meanings by conducting Association Dominoes Game and Guessing Game. Their ability in pronouncing English words improves through games especially in Puzzle Game and Go Fish Game. The students can practice their spelling through sticking activities such as Concentration Game and Tell a Stroy Game. Secondly, conducting Go Fish and Maze Game in non-frigtening situation by asking their friends can reduce the students’ difficulties in the use of words. Thirdly, conducting games, using interesting media, and creating various interesting tasks and activities can increase the students’ motivation in learning vocabulary. In this case the students’ mastery in vocabulary meaning get the maximum result. Anyhow, there are some weaknesess of using games teaching media to improve vocabulary mastery particularly in spelling and the use of word aspects such as the students’ ability and motivation are not the same, not all of the students can spell English alphabets, the condition of the teacher who paid more attention to the administrative tasks. Through games, the students can play while they learn using various activities, interesting media, and movement of their body.The teacher should be more creative in producing and using interesting media like games to improve the students’ English vocabulary. The institution should provide the required facilities to support the teaching and learning process specially for improving the English vocabulary mastery. The other researcher should prepare the planning of the research well and develop some dimensions, which have been observed deeply." @default.
