Der entstehende Wasserstoff wird durch Absorption in einem Metallhydrid zwischengespeichert. Toluol und MCH werden in herkömmlichen Flüssigtanks gelagert. Zur Rückgewinnung der gespeicherten Wärme erfolgt die katalytische Hydrierung des Toluols bei ca. 300 °C und 30 bar. Hierdurch können hohe Energiespeicherdichten (bis zu 0,6 kWh ) erzielt sowie eine Langzeitspeicherung von Wärme realisiert werden. The Liquid Organic Reaction Cycle is our proposal for thermochemical energy storage. Herein methylcyclohexane (MCH) is catalytically dehydrogenated at 300 – 350 °C in presence of a Pd membrane. The evolving hydrogen is stored via absorption in metal hydrides, whereas toluene and unconverted MCH are stored in conventional liquid tanks. To regain the stored thermal energy toluene is catalytically hydrogenated at approximately 300 °C and 30 bar. With this system relatively high energy densities as well as a long term storage of heat is applicable." @default.
