- W256162364 abstract "This chapter provides an overview of the nanocharacterization techniques for dental implant development. This chapter discusses methods to characterize topology and internal structure to the micron, nano- and angstrom scale. Nanotechnology has a large impact on development of dental materials and systems in the field of dentistry. Some of these include drug delivery systems, structural materials, biochemical and biomedical devices, adhesives, and pigments. In recent years, with the advent of many new techniques to fabricate nanostructures and their potential applications, the tools to be able to characterize nanoscale systems are becoming more commonly used and increasingly required as standard research tools. Raman spectroscopy and FTIR technique are among the techniques that can be used for characterization of nanostructures. This chapter also discusses use of field emission scanning electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, confocal microscopy, and interferometry in characterization of nanostructures. The chapter examines use of nanoscratch testing and nanohardness testing for measurement of the mechanical properties of nanostructures. It is emphasized that with so many advanced techniques available for the characterization of nanostructures, it is important to understand their capabilities so that they can be selected and used correctly." @default.
