This paper looks at some of these misunderstandings and misinterpretations that teachers hold about Technology and TE and undertake to explain their rationale. Broadening knowledge by delving into the different conceptions of what Technology and consequently TE is, is tantamount to their demystification and demythologization. To investigate TE teachers' understanding of Technology Education and its implementation, the study was divided into three broad themes, that is, the concepts Technology, TE and TE in the curriculum. To focus the themes, sub-themes relevant to the content of the themes were designed. Based on these themes and sub-themes, a questionnaire was constructed. The statements in the questionnaire were used to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. For the quantitative data the questionnaire posed statements on a five point Likert scale. During analysis and interpretation, this five point scale was reduced to a three point Likert scale. The qualitative data was obtained by conducting interviews with 22 randomly selected teachers from three provinces, that is, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng provinces. While the quantitative data revealed numerical values (percentages) of the responses, the interviews were used to clarify the rationale of the responses from the respondents' viewpoints while also cross referencing these with literature research. This study revealed lack of teachers' understanding of the concepts Technology and TE and as a result lack of proper understanding of how TE should be implemented within the curriculum.
