• W2563276518 abstract "In the recently evolved fields of satellite andspace communications as well as in a number of relatedareas, a vital requirement is an accurate knowledge ofthe radiating and receiving characteristics of the transmittingand receiving antennas as they appear at a largedistance (in the so called far-field region). It is oftenimpossible to obtain a direct measurement of the performanceof an antenna and in such cases where it is possible, theaccuracy obtainable is frequently limited by the manydifficulties associated with the process.Over recent years, a number of techniques have begunto appear which allow measurement of data close to the testantenna (in the near-field region) and then by mathematicalprocessing (the transformation) predict what the far-fieldperformance will be. The earlier techniques while beingbasically simple from a mathematical viewpoint, were notcompletely general and tended to involve special, sophisticated,hardware. The later techniques use the mostgeneral spherical scanning system but involve much morecomplicated processing.A new approach to the problem is presented in whichmuch of the computational burden is pre-processed so thatthe size and complexity of the ultimate prediction task isreduced. The various measurement systems are consideredbriefly and the spherical system is formulated in detail.Simulated and experimental predictions are carried outand studies are included of the various errors likely tobe present and their effects. The important parameters,including the sampling criterion, are discussed in somedetail.It is shown that this technique has the potentialfor producing rapid and accurate predictions of antennafar-field patterns including the facility of compensationfor the characteristics of the measurement probe." @default.
