RBCs continuously circulate for ∼100 days before being sequestered in the spleen, they only extravasate at sites of vascular hemorrhage. Taking advantages of these features, we engineered RBC as a carrier in order to design a unique delivery system capable of delivering X-ray computed tomography (CT) contrast agents, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), thereby acting as CT-contrast agent.
