- W2563648889 abstract "In many European countries a micro-hydro plant can be classified in the category renewable resource, only if it complies with environmental protection limitations. Installation of cross-flow turbines (Banki-Michell-Ossberger) require minor construction works to be done, especially for power up to 100kW. In the case of very low heads (less than 1.5 m), sometimes is difficult to feed the turbine nozzle through a headrace pipe. In such cases it is easier to feed the nozzle directly from the existing natural water flow. This paper presents a series of numerical simulations (CFD) for several values of flow (from 100 to 200 l/s) through a low power cross-flow turbine nozzle. The analyzed flow domain corresponds to a cross-flow turbine having nozzle only on the inlet. Numerical simulations were made taking into consideration the k-epsilon turbulence model. The numerical simulations are focused on flow phenomena taking place in the nozzle of the cross-flow turbine feed directly from the water stream. The nozzle have vertical axis. A comparative analysis between the nozzle feed by a headrace pipe (through the upper section) and the nozzle feed directly from water stream (through one of his sides), is also presented. Dead zones (streamline reversal) that appear in case of the nozzle feed through one of his sides are highlighted." @default.
