Thestudy objectives were to determine the extent to which level of education,management experience, exposure to training and gender influence Board ofmanagement members’ effectiveness in human resource management in publicsecondary schools in Dagoretti Sub County. A descriptive survey researchdesign was used for this study because it was useful in describing thecharacteristics even when analyzing multiple variables. The target populationof this study comprised of 10 public Secondary schools, 170 BOM members,200 teachers and the Sub-County Education Officer in Dagoretti Sub- County,Nairobi County Kenya. Stratified sampling was used to obtain a sample of186. The study used questionnaires for data collection from Board ofManagement members and teachers. Closed and open ended questions wereused to enable the respondents give their view data from the field which weresummarized and computerized through synthesizing information fromquestionnaires Quantitative data was analyzed through synthesizinginformation from the questionnaires and graphs. Secondary data was obtainedfrom journals. Data was analyzed by use of statistical package for socialsciences (SPSS) programmes. The raw data from the field was coded, edited,summarized and computerized through synthesizing information from thequestionnaires by SPSS (Macmillan, 2008). Person’s correlation coefficientand cross tabulation were done used to determine the relationship betweenvariables. The analyzed data was presented using frequency tables, graphs andcharts. The study found that the BOM members in Dagoretti Sub County werevery effective and ensured the curriculum is implemented through effectivesupervision of teachers. The researcher further concluded that BOM memberswere very effective in maintenance of student welfare and discipline for thebetterment of the school. The researcher also concluded that BOM members insecondary schools were very effective in recruitment, selection andmanagement of teachers. The study recommends that the Sub – CountyEducation Officer (SEO) should arrange for workshops for BOM members tobe sensitized on ways of human resource management in secondary schools." @default.
