- W2566481539 abstract "Results of the development of a series of precision devices for active control of the manufactured precision of articles in the course of treatment are presented. The operating principles are described and the characteristics of such devices for controlling the treatment of shafts and holes are presented. The need for devices to control the dimensions of parts in the course of treatment on grinding machines, called active control devices, arose in the early 1940s in connection with the increase in the volume of batch production of the precision parts of automobiles and rolling-contact bearings. Active control devices have been installed on many semi-automatic machine tools used for different purposes (cylindrical and internal grinding machines, centerless lathes, surface grinders, etc.). Initially, they were mechanical devices, and then electrocontact, pneumatic, and, finally, inductance devices, which are the types of devices that are now in use. However, the technology underlying the manufacture of parts in machine construction and the design of machine tools have progressively varied. Instead of automatic machine tools and lines designed for the fab- rication of a single part, numerically controlled machine tools that are easily reconstructed to process different parts have now become dominant. The construction of machine tools has become more stringent, the machine tools themselves have become more precise, and many new components have appeared, for example, ball-type and roller guides and controllable electric drives. Changes in the technology underlying the treatment of the parts of machines and technical progress have led to changes in the construction of active control devices and the role they play in machine construction (1-5). The Research and Design Institute of Measuring Means in Mechanical Engineering (NIIizmereniya) together with the STANKIN Moscow State Technological University has developed a new series of active control devices with general-pur- pose adaptive control chiefly for the control of shafts and holes. The devices consist of a limited number of measurement attachments suitable for different purposes and machine tools, and a single standardized microprocessor block with numer- ous functional capabilities for control of numerically controlled machine tools. The devices correspond to the requirements of domestic regulatory documentation (6, 7). An inductance differential transducer is used in the newly developed active con- trol devices. The measurement attachment consists of a small two-contact clamp (Fig. 1) for control of shafts with diameter up to 40 mm and a single-contact head that may be used as an axial orientation instrument.
