- W256750019 abstract "In this chapter the multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach is discussed, and the advantages of using it are highlighted. By utilizing the MDT approach in addition to the services of a child advocacy center, the focus of the investigation is child centered. In other words, decisions throughout the criminal justice process are made by the agencies involved working in collaboration putting the child's needs first along the way. The process of investigative interviews is discussed with attention to many factors including the setting, techniques for various types of witnesses, and suspects. Witness considerations such as emotions and attitudes and interviewers’ do's and don'ts are highlighted. The forensic interview and the minimal facts interview are explained and examples given. Documentation and the order of progression through an interview are discussed. Various types of interviewees are potential witnesses in child abuse cases and each is discussed. A detailed discussion on interviewing a suspect is included with tips on detecting untruthful behavior. The three keys to a successful child abuse investigation are effectively conducted, well-documented interviews of witnesses; careful background checks of everyone involved; and competent interview/interrogation of the suspect(s). The story must make sense and corroborate what you see at the scene and hear from the victim. A brief discussion of perpetrator characteristics is also included. Scene documentation, photographs, and sketches are a vital part of the investigation. What happens after the investigation is summarized." @default.
