- W2569710231 abstract "Lasers are fascinating tools for fabrication where an intense light is focused over a tiny spot to remove material, either by the process of heating or by intense energy excitations on the surface causing bonds between molecules to break. In both the cases, the process is incomparably simple and fast since no visible tool is required but a stream of highly focused and coherent light. Microelectro-mechanical systems (MEMS), sometimes referred as microsystem technology (MST), have created a huge opportunity for many diversified applications in miniature form. Microfluidics is one of the fastest growing topics in the field of technical and scientific research because of its immensely versatile capabilities. Lasers offer distinctive advantages over other microfabrication methods in terms of simplicity, cost, reduced mechanical stresses, less fabrication time, and much more. All the MEMS and microfluidic devices heavily depend upon reliable microfabrication methods. In this chapter, the laser-based microfabrication method has been presented in a detailed yet simple manner without dwelling on too many mathematical equations. Efforts have been made to concentrate on microchannel fabrication on various substrate materials as it is the most basic element used in such applications." @default.
