- W2569879009 abstract "This study investigated the quantitative procedure of (X-ray diffraction) XRD to elucidate the relationship between soil water conditions and the formation of pyromorphite in soil. Using standard samples composed of quartz sand and pyromorphite, which is an insoluble form of lead, a positive linear relationship was developed between the amount of pyromorphite and the peak area ratio of XRD analysis. The regression line can be used for estimating the amount of pyromorphite in simulated, lead-contaminated soil comprising quartz sand, lead chloride, and hydroxyapatite. In the simulated soil, with unsaturated and 100% saturated soil water conditions, lead chloride remained in the simulated soil despite the addition of hydroxyapatite. Moreover, the addition of hydroxyapatite induced incomplete lead immobilization by precipitating 30% to 40% of the added lead as pyromorphite. In flooded and percolated treatments, almost all of the lead in the simulated soil was altered to pyromorphite. This complete lead immobilization resulted in a significant decrease in the amount of lead dissolved or leached, indicating that lead dissolved from lead chloride was immobilized by hydroxyapatite when water percolated through the soil profile. This study suggests that the soil water condition, particularly water migration in soil, is a key factor for immobilization of lead by pyromorphite precipitation." @default.
