- W2574807780 abstract "It would save a lot of money and a lot of animal lives if the biomechanics of tissue-engineered constructs assessed in vitro could tell us about their in vivo performance. The question addressed in this chapter is if ultimate stress values of in vitro constructs can predict their in vivo outcome, the same for the elastic modulus, the ultimate load, and the stiffness. Hence, correlation plots of in vitro–in vivo data found in a series of peer-reviewed articles have been made and checked for correlations between the in vitro assessments and the in vivo outcome. As the data published for one and the same material in vitro and in vivo are rather sparse, however, only few examples are shown and discussed with a broad range of relations, having the same or less biomechanical outcome (group 1), having increased biomechanical outcome in vivo (group 2), or having an orders of magnitudes higher biomechanics compared to initial in vitro findings (group 3)." @default.
