- W2576057100 abstract "Instruments for remote measurements of the parameters of the Earth (dry land, the atmosphere, and the ocean) are being intensively developed and have progressed from the stage of experimental scientific development to the stage of global use for solving applied problems in meteorology, geodesy and cartography, ecology, defense, investigations of natural resources, etc. At the present time, the priority areas of development of methods, technologies and systems for the remote sensing of the Earth from space are: the construction of the Russian section of the Global Earth Observation System, the development of new technologies for space monitoring and the construction of systems for operational satellite monitoring of the seas of Russia, the setting up of satellite monitoring of the vegetation covering of Russia and adjacent states, the development of methods for investigating physical and other (including catastrophic) phenomena and processes in the “solid” Earth for geological and geodesic purposes, the development of methods and technical instruments for the coordinate-time provision of remote sensing of the Earth from space, based on the use of the GLONASS and GPS radio-navigation systems and precision instruments for measuring the orientation of satellite apparatus, and the design of systems and methods of calibrating future Russian instruments for remote sensing of the Earth and data products, obtained from satellite data, taking international standards into account [1]. The majority of problems in developing methods, technologies, and systems for the remote sensing of the Earth are solved by constructing and using apparatus of average and high resolution in the optical, infrared, and microwave bands. Modern satellite radiometry instruments in the infrared band (wavelength range 0.76‐750 µm) and the microwave band (wavelength range 0.75‐500 mm) enable global observation data to be obtained of the fields of the inherent electromagnetic radiation of the Earth’s mantle, the world oceans, and the atmosphere (unlike the optical band, where reflected solar radiation is used). Radiometer systems in the microwave band enable one to obtain regular information on the state of the atmosphere, the ocean (seas) and dry land for use in weather prediction, for detecting the origin of dangerous phenomena in areas of the World ocean, to gather information on the state and limits of snow and ice coverings, etc., and to solve many other both operational and long-term problems. The advantage of microwave systems is that they can provide information once or twice a" @default.
